Pediatric Feeding, Edmonton | Regan Petrosky SLP

Regan Petrosky, MSc. SLP, R.SLP, S-LP(C)

I am an experienced speech-language pathologist based out of Edmonton with a wealth of knowledge in pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders. I graduated from the University of Alberta in 2010 with a Master’s of Science in Speech-Language Pathology.

My career focus has always been driven by my passion for family centered care, and I love working with families and young children to support healthy development. I have a wide range of clinical experience through my work at the Stollery Children’s Hospital providing inpatient and outpatient care, as well as through the public school board in preschool speech and language services.

I am certified with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, as well as Speech-Language and Audiology Canada. I am a mother to two young boys, and in my free time I enjoy exploring in nature with my family.

Pediatric feeding & swallowing

I work collaboratively with families to support feeding skills from birth to childhood. I have experience working with families experiencing feeding issues related to a variety of medical issues, including premature birth, developmental delays, cleft lip and palate, oral aversion, reflux, and other medical concerns. I believe fed is best, and support infants and children who breastfeed, bottle feed, use cups, eat solids, or rely on non-oral methods of receiving nutrition.

Speech, language, & communication

I work with families and children to support development of speech, language, and communication skills. Services offered include assessment (including PUF qualifying), consultation, parent training, and direct therapy. I am certified in the Hanen More Than Words program, and have experience working with a variety of communication needs related to developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and cleft palate.

Where do appointments take place?

I am available for both in-home sessions as well as via video conference. Additional charges may apply for in-home sessions depending on your location.

Will I be charged for an initial phone call to see if this is the right service for us?

No, I encourage you to contact me by phone, text message, or email with any questions you have. I will do my best to help you find the support you need.

What happens during a feeding and swallowing appointment?

First there will be a short conversation about the concern(s) you would like to address. This will include a discussion about your child's medical history and any other relevant information. Next there will be an observation and assessment of your child's feeding skills. We will discuss strategies and suggestions to improve feeding and swallowing skills and the overall feeding experience. I will provide you with a copy of my recommendations via email, and we will discuss any additional follow-up that may occur.

Are fees subsidized or covered by insurance?

I am a registered speech-language pathologist with ACSLPA. Some group insurance plans have coverage for services provided by registered speech-language pathologists. I am able to provide your insurance company with a copy of my current practice permit and registration information. At this time, Alberta Health Care does not provide coverage for speech-language pathology services. The Canada Revenue Agency considers all fees paid to for speech-language pathologist services as a tax-deductible medical expense.

When do appointments take place?

I am available to work around your schedule. Sessions can take place during the day or during evening and weekends. I understand that your concerns may be urgent and will work to find a schedule that meets those needs.

What are the costs for your services?

My rate for services is $130/hour. This rate applies to all services, including assessment, treatment, and documentation. An initial patient assessment and the development of a treatment plan is usually 1-1.5 hrs. Half-hour services may be available to provide follow-up services.
